1)In what way does your media product use, develop or challenge forms an conventions of real media products?

My thriller is called Door 29 and it can be compared to real media product because we used a lot of media software,technique and equipment for example :

Final cut pro: this allowed us to edit the length of the shots, match up all our shots and add transitions. Our film mainly contained cross dissolves between shots this is effect because it makes it flows nice and smoothly, however towards the end of our opening we decided to have fast sharp cuts to add tension. We was strongly influenced by Marathon Man so used a lot of parallel editing to cut between 2 important characters.

Soundtrack: enable us to create an original soundtrack, it also helped us to cut out unwanted dialogue in the background. At the opening I made it fade in so its nice and peaceful so it doesn't give away what's about to happen, however has it goes on I added effects like heart beats and heavy breathing so it matches with our jogger. The breathing makes it sound as though something is going to happen Additionally has it goes on the speed of the music increased to build tension. At the end of our opening I added a bang, so it implies that our killer is going to kill her.

Livetype: this is what used to put all our credits with, just like most thrillers we stuck with one main font style throughout apart from. We used a bold Arial black font in white, then we added a dirt bike effect so it gives a sense that the title is moving with the jogger. The credits included who the film was directed by,starring, produced, music composer and the title - we were careful about selecting tasks that you would find in typical films. To make our film look even more professional we created a lot of various different names because in real films you'll rarely ever see the same name then once or twice.

Camera: We used a variety of shot angles and shot types to make it look more interesting, however we had to be very careful because we had to make sure there wasn't any continuous editing. Two shots i thought was very effective was the pan in the bushes where we can see our jogger, this was effective because it seemed as if we are spying on her, and the over the shoulder shot where you see the killer looking down at the picture, this shot was effect because the next shot it cuts to our jogger and it implies that she is his target.

Mise en scene: My locations are mile end park and my flat which is also in mile end in east London, this was great because the locations was in walking distance. Our props where simple an envelope,money and a picture for our killer and for the jogger just an ipod and a bottle of water. Costume for both our jogger and killer was very basic, we was going for a natural look to show this is just a normal neighbourhood, our jogger was simple wearing tracksuit top and leggings which is what most female joggers wear. The killer was casual dressed in a t-shirt and trousers - it was a though the killer was just a normal man and could be anyone which is often used in thrillers. Tom Cruise in Collateral looks just like a businessman..

2) How does your media product represent particular social groups?

Our film is set in an urban area so it is representing urban east London teens from the age of 15-25 from both genders. Their hobbies include going to the cinemas, partying and basically has an active social life. Our main characters are very stereotypical even though we do break some conventions because the jogger who is a female is playing an active role instead of the normal housewife role, however this doesn't last for long because she's about to get murdered. Our killer is very stereotypical because he is a black male who are often associated with criminality.

3) What kind of media institution might distribute your media

product and why?

My film is a low budget British armature film, realistically it will be distributed Artificial Eye. In order to get the attention of Artificial Eye I would use the internet and put our film on social networking sites. Our film will be promoted by using such social site like :

After the film had attracted some interest with a good number of viewings I would hope I cold get a distribution company interested and then go down a mor traditional route.

4) How will you attract your audience?

The target audience for my media product are young adults from the age of 15-25. So by putting it on the following sites this will get there attention because most teens/young adults are using these sites. I am also going to give the link to my friends and family and they could past it on t generate more interest.

5) Who would be the audience for your media project?

The target audience for my media product are urban young adolescents from London 15-25 years of age.

Keith is 18, he's attending City and Islington college and he has just past his driver license . He's up to date with the latest fashion, girls, plays football and basketball and like most boys his age he in interested in women. Other interest includes blackberry, facebook, gym, clubing and going to the cinemas. Likes thrillers,action and comedy, this is good because door 29 will be of interest o him.

6) What have you learned about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

My college is equipped with imacs computers with special software for a specific jobs which included :

Livetype:

This allows you to add text,objects,template and effects, for example dissolving,fades, glows and many more on to your footage to give it a professional look.

Soundtrack

This enables you to add or layover natural sounds like footsteps, clapping and screaming. You can also add sound effects either to make your film comical or to build tension. Additionally you could even create an original soundtrack to make the footage more interesting.

final cut pro,after you've watched a footage you can choose to shorten or lengthening your footage by putting an input and an output anywhere you see fit then you drag it down to the time line. This software also includes many effects and transitions for example fades, dissolves,wipes and many more. I additionally learnt I could place music or sound effects on to the time line to give my film a specific feel whether its sad happy or tense.

i also used blogger to post what i've done in my lesson and what i have learnt in my tutorial sessions. To film I was given valuable state of the art camera and tripods to film with. To transfer work from the camera to the computer I used a usb drive and S.T memory cards. I've learnt from Livetype different jobs people have in the film industry that I didn't know about before and using Soundtrack I've gained a better understanding of how to mix sounds by applying rhythm and volume.

7) Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learned in the progression from it to the full product?

The prelim video on the separate blog was a practice scene we done near the start of filming. Comparing that video to DOOR29 which is also on a separate blog I would say that my filming skills have improved. I am now more aware of framing such as putting the shot into focus, making sure the space between the top of the screen and the head isn't too much and the overall handling the camera. I also have a better understanding of how to use Livetype, Soundtrack and Final Cut Pro and I think this is reflected in our films - if you compare the two. I also think the narrative is more complicated in DOOR29 and this was helped by developing our editing skils so that 2 stories can run at the same time and the audience will know they are connected.

The sound was very good. There

Skills Audit: Soundtrack

For our soundtrack we firstly decided to have two different types of music to reflect the two characters, but after a couple of minuets we noticed that one, it would take up too much time and two it wasn't as effective.
We all agreed on having a smooth yet tense sound that gradually builds, adding other pieces of sound to emphasis the natural sound. Such as the Breathing sound when I',m running, the Knock on the door when the letter comes through.
We also laid on other types of sound to add dramatic effect in certain places.

Skills Audit: Creation of Titles

For our titles we decided to be different and put some on a black screen and some over the film,
inspired by the film Marathon Man.
To keep it simple we used the colour white and font Arial Black to give a bold and thrilling feel. We added effects such as Frigid (which shakes slightly) and Dirtbike (which swoops the test into the screen with a background dust on comng off the text) just to make it more interesting.

Skills Audit: Filming & Editing

After we finished our pitch and storyboards, it was then time to start filming.
By now we was exited because we had a clear image of what we wanted the final piece to look like.

Filming
Our filming took place on a Sunday morning, in Jevoney's flat in Mile End where we shot his scene, we then walked up the road to Mile End Park, where I shot my running scene.
In total we had to film on three different occasions due to us wanting to add and change things.
when doing this we kept in mind the continuity, and had to make sure Jevoney wore the same clothes and hiss flat was the same.
Overall, I thinking the filming was a good experiance and I grew to learn how to use the equipment, although it was stressful at times having to carry the camera and tripod around, I really enjoyed it.

Editing
I would say that the editing was much harder and much more stressful than filming. We wanted to include a variety of interesting shots; close ups and match cuts but it was hard to fit it all together to make it look smooth. It was also really annoying because we all knew what we wanted it to look like, but we just couldn't get it together.
But now, that we've finished I am really pleased with the final result and I think we all worked hard to get it to look like this so I'm happy with it.

The first location my group chose was mile end park, I thought this was a great location because it's a perfect place for a jogger to go. It has a canal,nice green grass and it is very peaceful. so it looks all happy and energetic in contrast with our other location. Additionally it is very close to our second location so we didn't have to travel much.

Our second location is my flat which is in east London Poplar . This has inspired the title of my movie 'Door 29 and which you can see is the same as my actually door. I thought this was a great location because it has nice view of canary wharf which was great to show an establishing shot. Also in the letter scene because it is very dark in my hallway it works well with my character because I wanted to give of the impression that he's dark and sinister.

Brief:

My groups task was to rein-act the bag swap scene from Collateral, We only had around 40minutes to do this task so we decided to remain in the college.

Camera:

This task was simple for me and my group because i have a lot of experience with Cameras. However we had a challenge because we had to do specific shots which where POV, over the shoulder and a variety of close ups.

Suspense:

Doing this was a little difficult because we had so little time and very thing had to be created from scratch. Eventually we came up with an idea that we shouldn't show there faces, we started of with there feets and as the get closer and closer the camera goes higher and higher. Additionally we decided it should be a long build up to the swapping of the briefcase. We managed to successfully pulled this off and created some sort of suspense

Brief:We had to film a short sequence mimicking the briefcase swap in collateral. Which we used Final cut pro to do the editing process. When we are happy that the editing is completed we export the footage to either Livetype or Soundtrack.

In this tutorial we was introduce to the camera before we could start filming or sequences. We was giving a tutorial on how to use the follow equipment

• Tripod

This is a great tool because it allows you to keep your camera still. It can be extended or shortened in length

• Video camera

This is the most important tool because without it you wouldn't be able to film. We was introduce how to put in the battery into the back of the camera, how to turn it on, zoom,focus, record and how to watch the footages you've recorded.

• Memory card and memory car reader

The memory card goes into the side of the camera either in slot A or B but before this we got to make sure its unlock because the footage will not record if its locked. When you are finish filming you go into the editing room where you just put the memory card into the reader so you can have access to it on the computers.

• Video drive

finally this is what we store all our footages on including the work we have done on final cut pro, soundtrack and livetype.

• Use umbrella to keep camera dry if it is raining
• Always close the lens when finish filming

Brief:

After making our story bored and getting our props we done a short sequence on which was about a female character opening a door, going towards a male character where we see an exchange of a piece of paper,money and dialogue.

In this exercise we had to do the following:

• a match cut
• shot reverse shot
• show understanding of the 180 degree rule

My group did not have a lot of time left after filming because on continually changed our idea, so we decided to leave the original sound.

This is a long shot slightly hight angle of a bike to represents depression because the owner of this bike has to come back from a hard days of working only to find that their front wheel is missing. Now he/she has to think about how they are going to get that one wheeled bike home and now they've got to find the cash to put another wheel.
